The Great Lash Debate

Beauty, General

Hello beautiful friends!

This past week I went in for my annual eye exam at Complete Eye Care of Medina. Going into the appointment, I knew I was likely to have an updated prescription (I wear glasses for distance, especially night driving) and that in turn would lead to chatting about new eyeGLASSES. What I didn’t know is that we’d end up chatting about eyeLASHES too.

I was trying on a few frames and Jennifer pointed out that I may have to wear my glasses down a bit further on my nose due to the length of my eyelashes!!! I certainly never expected to have that problem! I was actually having a bit of “a day” prior to the appointment – I had slapped some mascara on my top lashes and was out the door in the morning. I would have expected them to look pretty defeated by 3:00 in the afternoon. Apparently, my lashes are longer, thicker, and more fabulous than I have given them credit for! Of course, the question was coming…are they lash extensions? Short answer. No.

Lash extensions have taken the beauty world by storm. It isn’t uncommon in the least to see lash extensions on the daily. They look amazing!!! I have several friends who get them done religiously and swear by them. A couple of years ago I decided I must get in on this luxurious lash experience. Long lashes and no mascara?! SOLD!!! Initially, I absolutely loved it! I was all about the “I woke up like this” look and ease of them. It was somewhat of a challenge to get myself to spend the time (and money) to lay there for a couple of hours to get them installed and regularly afterward, filled in. If you have a professional manicure or acrylic nail services, you would want to consider this like adding another one of those maintenance blocks to your schedule. I was lucky enough to know a professional that would come and do them for me at my house! That was all just fine, but what happened after time is that my eyelids started to react to the adhesive they use to attach the lashes to your own lash. Despite efforts to take very good care of them, they made my eyelids puffy and angry. I had to give it up. That was a sad day. We are all different and not everyone reacts the same. It was no longer for me.

Here we are a couple of years later and I just told you about the lovely lash compliments I was getting at my eye appointment.

So here’s the tea. It is all thanks to a delightful no fuss serum that I swipe across my lashes each night after I brush my teeth. Yep, that’s truly it. Easy peasy. There are several companies that make lash serums. I’ve heard good things about Latisse, but have not used it myself. I first had my interest sparked by a friend on Instagram…gotta love the gram! She was embarking on a new endeavor with Rodan & Fields. That is when I started paying attention to Lash Boost. I decided it was worth trying. Clearly, the results have been fabulous!

My lashes are in great condition! long, full, and I get a lot of compliments on them. Lash Boost does not irritate my eyes and my fabulous eye doctor at Complete Eyecare of Medina confirmed that it has been studied and does not cause any harm to your eyes.

When I shared this with a couple of the ladies at Complete Eye Care, they were very excited! They had not had the chance to hear from someone #IRL about this option and how easy it is. In my opinion, it is a miracle product! If you have light lashes as I do, you still need mascara because they are still YOUR natural lashes. That was a very nice feature of the extensions, but obviously not above the health of my eyes in my particular case.

If you would love to have long and full lashes with a simple swipe of your lash line at night, this is absolutely worth your money and effort to pursue. If you have a trip or event where you don’t want to deal with mascara, you can still go ahead with getting them tinted, which lasts 2-4 weeks.

How about the Benjamins?

A full set of professional lash extensions runs approximately $150-$175+.

A maintenance fill on the lash extensions about every 4-6 weeks is approximately $75.

Rodan & Fields Lash Boost is $150 and will last you approximately 3 months. It lasts a lot longer than that for me, but that is what they have in their literature.

Lumify – my newest product obsession – available at Complete Eyecare of Medina

If you are local and would like more information about Complete Eye Care, you can find them here!

While we are talking all about eyes, I want to tell you a little bit about another product that they educated me on and I am SO pleased with.  Due to all the time I spend outside, with the horses, and environmental factors in general, my eyes often get red or the whites of my eyes just aren’t very white. The Doctor noticed this and put 1 drop of Lumify in each eye and a minute later they were beautifully white! I swear I’ve googled this problem in the past and nothing useful showed up. Sorry, but Visine does not “get the red out” for me. This – this is legit my friends…if you ask me.

Thank you for stopping by! I’d love to hear your thoughts, opinions, questions. It just takes a moment – Let me know you were here!
