Hello Beautiful Friends!
Will you be watching The Run for the Roses this Saturday?
Twenty of the most talented three-year-old thoroughbreds will hit the track for the 145th annual one and one-quarter mile race at Churchill Downs in Louisville Kentucky. The Kentucky Derby. The horses in that line up have traveled far and wide to compete in thirty-five different races across the country and world leading up to this, the first leg of the Triple Crown.
So what are you doing for the “Most Exciting Two Minutes in Sports”?
While I’m not very savvy on all things horse racing, I do adore the tradition and feel of the event and the fact that it is highlighting the finest in spring fashions and more importantly, horses!
Channel your inner Southern Belle if you are planning to attend a Kentucky Derby Party or viewing. The fashion and the people watching, in general, is so exciting!
Wearing a hat to the Kentucky Derby is believed to bear good luck! The long-established fashion is commonly the center of the outfit. Hats are adorned with flowers, feathers, bows, and ribbons – any number of elements that highlight creativity and individuality.
An equally favored look is the fascinator. Smaller than a traditional hat and just as stylish, this piece of headwear perches perfectly on your head. They can be simpler to wear than a hat.
Whether you are attending the Kentucky Derby live in person or attending a viewing party, I’ve put together some looks to inspire you in your derby day style. And we mustn’t forget about the classic cocktail associated with the day either…the Mint Julep. My twist on it is “add champagne”! See the recipe as well as a quick and delightful hors d’oeuvre below.
If you are watching from home in your leggings – that’s great too! Truth be told, I could very well be joining you in that. It’s still fun to get into the spirit and look at the fashions, right? Here are the looks I’ve created for just that.
Several of these dresses and accessory pieces are from Anthropologie. If you are local to the Wayzata area, they are having a fashion runway show in the Wayzata location on Thursday evening from 6-8. Tickets are $10 and benefits Every Mother Counts.
